Our focus and concentration seem to constantly be under siege throughout the workday, but there are simple steps that can be taken in order to gain them back, and a proper desktop organizer software, such as OneDock, is an important part of this puzzle.
- 1. Adjust your work environment.
Make sure the desk is neat, the chair is set to the proper height, and you have the necessary light to get work done in the utmost comfort. But do not limit yourself to these physical details… declutter your digital workspace as well! By bringing your most important apps and information in one screen, OneDock helps you customize your workstation and set the mood for working efficiently.
- 2. Eliminate distractions.
Minimize disruption by disabling all unnecessary notifications – phone included. Within OneDock, you can keep in touch with your teammates via Skype, Messenger, WhatsApp and the likes, so you can still work together no matter the distance. The upside is unifying communications with dedicated tools that prevent distractions and losing track of information.
- 3. Manage your energy.
Time management is an art of its own, but its lesser known cousin, energy management, makes all the difference. How so? Well, some tasks require more attention than others, hence they should be carried out when you are at your best. For most people, that time is usually in the morning, but we are all different… So, instead of following someone else’s schedule, prioritize your task list and organize work according to your own parameters.
- 4. Optimize your screen space.
By getting rid of distracting icons, tabs and bookmarks, you can better focus at the task at hand. Use full screen mode whenever possible, auto-minimize your menu bar, and make use of OneDock’s desktop streamlining capabilities.
- 5. Keep tasks manageable.
Create to-do lists for each goal and project and follow up on those lists. Besides the dedicated Todoist, you can also manage your tasks efficiently in Asana or Trello, or you can make use of note-taking apps like Evernote or OneNote. All these are smoothly integrated with OneDock, so you can add them to your customized dashboard and always have them in sight.
- 6. Take short breaks and then get back to work.
Divide big projects into smaller sub-tasks. Not only will it be easier to focus on a specific assignment, but it will also keep your motivation level high enough to go on. It is also important to reward yourself with some time off whenever you manage to cross a task off your list.
- 7. Review your tasks on an hourly basis.
Check on your progress regularly throughout the day and readjust the priorities if necessary. Take the time to celebrate your small wins and allow for some breathing room in your schedule. After all, unexpected urgencies are inevitable.
- 8. Focus on one thing at a time.
However tempting multitasking is, unless handled properly, it is nothing but a nuisance. The easy way out is to focus on a single task whenever possible, or at least to batch related tasks together. And, in order to avoid the hassle of switching accounts (in social media apps, for example), you can run multiple instances of the same app and connect all of your email accounts within OneDock.
- 9. Switch between tasks every now and then.
High-attention tasks make you feel tired after a while. The best way to clear your head and recharge your batteries without feeling it is a waste of time is to switch to a shorter, low-attention task.
- 10. Take care of your nutrition.
Last, but not least, pay attention to what you eat and drink throughout the day. Start your day with a healthy breakfast, stay hydrated, and make sure you have an optimal vitamin intake.
Stay organized, focused, and productive. Happy working with OneDock!
